We have selected what we feel is the best canister to use in this area. Our canisters provide the highest output volume available so that the cloud that is created between you and the bear is large and quickly formed.
We recommend renting at least one canister per adult in your group.

Why rent bear spay instead of buying bear spray? This is a great question and we offer the following information to consider:
- The Expense – Buying bear spray can cost you $50-$60 per canister, We cap our rentals at $28 so you will never pay more than this with a rental (max 28 days rental). Our rentals are also priced so that the daily cost goes down as your rental term increases. Rates start at $12/day but can be as low as $1.00/day (for a 28 day rental).
- Travel Challenges – Most people who are visiting Alaska fly into the state which creates a challenge with bear spray as bear spray is not allowed in either checked or carry on luggage(1). So you would have to acquire (either buy or rent) bear spray in Alaska and, if purchased, you would not be allowed to take it with you.
- Expiration – Bear spray doesn’t last forever. Most canisters expire after 3-5 years so unless you are using it often and continuously over a long period of time, it just doesn’t make financial sense to own a canister of bear spray. We maintain our inventory and ensure that all canisters that are rented are within their expiration dates.
- The Environment – If you buy bear spray it is most likely going to be thrown out and end up in a landfill at some point. Our canisters are re-used and, at the end of their life, recycled.
Our bear spray canisters are also very convenient. You don’t have to shop for bear spray once you arrive in Alaska. The canister(s) you order will be allocated and at the pickup location you specified. We guarantee it! As you leave, we have convenient drop-off locations so that you are not burdened with that either.
Each canister comes with a QR code on it that you can use for both written and video instructions on how to effectively use bear spray while you are visiting Alaska.
